On the way back from Mud Island community garden I bumped into a sexy kitten, a  very little red riding hood and a miniature witch, a sexy zombie who seemed to have lost her skirt and a man in a creepy clown mask pushing a baby in a pram. It seemed that Halloween had begun and I still needed to get a few threats for all of those knocks on my door.

But before I went shopping I popped in to Mud Island and took a sneak peak at the haunted house and graveyard waiting to scare everyone. I couldn’t believe how great it turn out and was just glad I had some light to see it all and not get too scared.

After a week filled with family and friends my days have now turned back too normality. And since I have so much work to do for my masters it’s about time, after all all those words aren’t going to write themselves.

But just because I have to knuckle down and get work done doesn’t mean that I won’t be prepared for the witches and ghouls who’ll come a knocking tonight. In preparation for the nightly visitors I have filled a bowl with TREATS, in the hope to avoid all the tricks.

10659225_10152847895904577_749420148324840704_nLast night I wandered around the corner and into my local pub, “Annesley House”, to enjoy an extra special evening with The House Presents.

Someone had decorated the quirky upstairs room and it exuded the spirit of Halloween. The theme of the night was Devils vs Angels and some of us even dressed up and pick a side.

Over some long drinks or beer, a few nibbles on the side, we enjoyed the soulful lyrics of The Winters and the quirky guitar riffs of Parisian Paul Pechenart – my french is too bad to have been able to thoroughly enjoy his funny songs!

10410539_10152847895734577_5170376086892175069_nIt was a great night and a perfect prelude to the night that is today – Halloween! I may not have a costume and I am too busy to try and create one last minute but I will still go down the Mudisland Community Garden, enjoy the fireworks and food with friends, ghouls and other freaks.

Albert Camus, autumn, becoming smarter, cardigans, halloween, leaves, mild temperatures, wooly socks

leaves_lowIt’s that time of the year again where the leaves change their outfits and wooly socks and cardigans become your go-to comfy clothes.

And while we do still have very mild temperatures and sunny skies you can feel a  tiny nip in the air as soon as the sun hides away.

In a  few weeks time cute ghouls and skipping witches will be knocking on my door demanding sweets and treats, threatening tricks if I don’t give in. This means I should really get my Halloween going, a few chestnut and pumpkins to adorn my window sills won’t be amiss.

But with my eyes a  little blurry from looking at my computer all day and my lack of sleep the result of too-much-to-do and heavy rains drumming an autumny rhythm on my window every night, a musical interlude to the season to come.

So today I switched from muesli to porridge, pulled on a pair of socks and made some hot herbal tea as my teaching companion.

80's hits, dancing, gouls and ghosts, halloween, miscellaneous, photography, random, witches, witches hat

Yesterday I bumped into Snow-white while strolling down O’Connel Street and when I hurried to the post office this morning the Wolf and little Red Riding Hood playing hootch-scotch on the pavement.  Halloween is upon us with its purple and orange decorations and grinning pumpkin faces.

So when a friend asked me if I wanted to join her on her favorite holiday and get all dressed up to go out I agreed, but this was last week. So when she doubled checked with me yesterday afternoon I was shocked into action trying to figure out how to create a last-minute costume. My friend has been preparing for weeks, making a cardboard baby-grand and buying a sequined jacket, she even has a wig to perfect her Liberace outfit. So I knew, no matter what I pulled together I would look a little pale in comparison. But I didn’t want to let her down and remembering I own a witches hat, a gift don’t ask, I rummaged around in my wardrobe for a black dress with wide sleeves.

I sat down to wait for the the text with our meeting details, clicking my buckled black shoes happy with my outfit, maybe not Liberace but a recognizable with none the less. However when the text finally came our outing was canceled due to a headache and other reasons and I felt a little bit silly sitting in my living room with long stripy socks, pig tails and a black and yellow velvet witches hat. But because I didn’t what to waste the dress-up I put on some music and danced to my 80’s hits and poured myself a glass of red.

And as the hands on my clock moved towards the witching hour I changed into my pyjamas and sat down in front of the fire, leaving the witching up to all those real witches and ghosts, who spook  around at night.

christmas, christmas lighting, christmas markets, decorations, halloween, home, jingle bells, miscellaneous, photography, random, red noses, time, winter

Walking home the other night I saw something I really wasn’t expecting. A team of burly looking men were busy putting up the Dublin Christmas lighting.  And when I get home and settled down to watch the news I was surprised by a Christmas themed advert.

Now I am a big Christmas lover, it is my favourite time of the year! I love when the air is crispy cold and you can smell snow or ice, I enjoy decorating my home, putting up my stocking and going to Christmas markets. I adore sitting down in front of the fire and writing Christmas cards, sipping mulled wine and listening to cheesy Christmas music. And yes I do admit that I already have several Christmas presents bought and ready for wrapping

But even I, with my Christmas infatuation, thinks it’s a bit early for baubles, ho-ho-hos and jingle bells and the only red noses on the streets should be indicators of colds not Rudolph look-a-likes. After all we still have Halloween around the corner.

So while it “tis the season to be jolly”, because it always is a good thing to be, I think we should all keep our Christmas decorations under lock and key and wait till the first of Advent to enjoy embellish our homes. So while my anticipation rises and I can’t wait for snowflakes and spices to fill the air and my fingers itch to unwrap my lovely festive ornaments I am happy to sit back and enjoy the time I am in right now.
