I have been neglecting my blog, ignored my idioms and many other things of late as I have been spending my time, thinking, planning and trying to figure out a few things. But today I came across a quote by Audrey Hepburn that made me smile and I decided that maybe I should start doing instead of thinking.

So I booked myself  a ticket to  Berlin and will stay in Germany’s largest city for the whole month of July this year. I have no idea where I can rest my head and leave my suitcase nor do I know how I’ll finance this adventure yet but I live in hope that I will find both bed and money,

So here is the quote that inspired me to reconnect with my blog, find my words again and do instead of think:

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!

Yesterday I succumbed to my visitor Mr Sneeze who turned in to Master Sniffles and his friend Miss Throat-Tickles transformed into Madam Throat-Ache. So after my few hours of teaching I swapped skirt for sweats and stress for sweet honeyed tea. But that meant my blog was put on the pile of “can wait” and my messy desk was ignored.

But the advantage of giving into being a little bit sic meant I didn’t even feel bad about it and lay around watching good-bad TV and while sipping hot beverages. It also meant I finally got around to looking at all those lovely blogs I missed and read comments I got while AWOL. And then while enjoying all the kind words, thoughts and notes the lovely Tom Lucas sent me the Reality Blog Award.

Now he did say there are a few rules, but that we can change them if we like so as I don’t play well within boundaries I think I may just do that and instead of answering the five questions asked I will explain why I am nominated the five blogs that I am:

1) Tammy always makes me smile. And what would reality be without laughs, chuckles, giggles, smiles, guffaws, chortles, sniggers and any other form of laughter there is out there? So because of the joy it spreads I am nominating Laughing at everyday Life.

2) Laura gives tips, tricks and insight into fashion, always at affordable prices and with a little extra personal spice. And my reality would be not as much fun with out a little bit of fashion to brighten up those grey or unhappy days And even though I am not a big follower of fashion but love comfort I do like to look well and love it when others style up. That is why AsTimeGoesBuy gets my nomination.

3) Anarty has a lovely blog filled with art. He posts the most incredible and very divers things and what would life be without colour, beauty and creativity. That is why I am nominating Anarty.

4) Shoes has a delightful blog filled with quirky tales of her day-to-day adventures, always funny and very real. And lets be honest what would reality be like with out or day-to-day trials and tribulations. So for her honest, humourous and loveable view on life I nominate Shoes on the wrong foot.

5) And because I can’t make up my mind I am  nominating JDGAllagher and TalktoDiana. I love reading both their blogs because they are always interesting, always different and filled with their own personalities.
So time for me to sit down and enjoy my award and reward myself with a glass of wine in front of the fire, that really is the best kind of reality!

absense, blog, Dublin, feelings, lost, miscellaneous, photos, random, thoughts, time, typing, white rabbit, writing

Now how did that happen? My last post was way back in August and suddenly it is October. Well it started with a visit from a friend and ended with me being so caught up in the tumbleweed of my life: tossing, turning, rolling through time with no real sense of direction, purpose, shape or form.

And as the world kept spinning on it’s axis, time continued ticking, I felt a little left behind and like the white rabbit was “to late” for seemingly everything, even life itself.  So while I was trying to keep up with, I can’t remember what, I just couldn’t find a minute to sit down and write in peace, nor could I find the words I was looking for in my maze of chaos  and so the days on my calendar continued to flip over at an amazing speed and the blogesphere grew silently without me.

But I am back, hopefully more myself again, taking the challenge up I have given myself to structure my day a little better, allowing time for me, my blog and all my lovely readers who I have missed more than I realised.

So thank you for remembering me, for sending me wonderful words and loving thoughts. And with a sigh, a shrug and a quizzical look I sit and type hoping the words will be kind to me again and my thoughts will give me ideas to write, type and ponder about.

Looking for a direction, seemingly the only way is up

I can’t believe it is already Sunday, where did the week go, or the last half year for that matter. It kind of makes me wonder what I have been doing with my time, what have I got to show for 2012 so far?

Well there is this blog that I started back in the middle of March, and yes it has taken up much more time than I ever thought it would, but I have been enjoying it immensely. Meeting new people, even if only in this virtual universe, reading about things I have never considered, learning things and laughing at the wackiness that is out there in the world wide web. I am not sure it counts as an accomplishment, but I do look forward to it every day so I think it is a plus.

I did send out my manuscript a while back but no “yes” has pinged back into my mail-box just yet, I’m still hopeful. But I should really follow up on it and maybe see if sending if off to the UK changes the game. It still isn’t finished mind you so I think the next few weeks and months means less blogging more writing for me. Maybe I should post a few pages here and see what my blog-companions think about it … mmmhhh now there  is s a thought.

The gym, well that has been a failure so far, I somehow haven’t been able to get into a rhythm, so it is still on my list of things to change, as is my desire to do more photography and art. I keep saying I want to do it but somehow life gets in the way and I don’t. But I am glad to say that I have been better with taking photos, my collection getting bigger every week, even if only by a few shots, now my canvas needs to be tackled.

My dating life, well that is a whole other story. It’s on the back burner for now as there really doesn’t seem to anyone out there that tickles my fancy and heart and I really don’t want to do the whole internet, speed or blind-dating rig-ma-roll again, and yes everything I wrote is true.

As I may not be able to change having achieved so little in the last half year, I think i wills tart small today and clean my home, go to the gym and maybe just maybe climb through that window that is opened when a door closes.

Some open windows in St Petersburg, photos taken on my trip last year:

5000, blog, community, followers, miscellaneous, musings, random, readers, thanks, thoughts

I feel like singing and dancing and whopping and hugging someone. My little blog just hit 5,000 (MMMMM)  views and I am thrilled to bits.  I know it may seem silly to all you seasoned bloggers out there but to me it’s a big deal. My blog is two months old today and I have to say 65 posts, 115 followers and many lovely comments later I have fallen a little bit in love with my new blogger-friends.

From me here in Dublin a big thank you to all of you who have read and followed my blog. And even though I am staying in on a Friday night I think this momentous (for me anyway) occasion calls for wine, music and fun …

So as I turn up the CD-player and sing ‘celebration’  with Kool and the Gang, out of tune but with lots of heart I wish all my lovely readers a fabulously wonderful weekend.

antioxidants, ‘The Uninspired Chronicles’, blog, brain, children, creative, exercise, food, health, ideas, random, science, thoughts, writing

For the first time since I started this blog I have no idea what to write about. As I sit and stare at both the screen and the keyboard I can’t help but wonder where do ideas come from, what makes them and where can I get them?

There seems to be a misconception that there are creative and non-creative people in the world. The one group have this unexplained power to see the world from a slightly different angle and create things that weren’t there before, the others only standing by in awe.  But that is not true, everyone can be creative if they let themselves.

Although scientists have been trying to figure out how ideas are made inside our brain they haven’t really been able to figure out too much. They know that dopamine is a main contributor to the process and that certain areas of the brain tend to be more active than others, but they also know that being intelligent and being creative are not necessarily linked, so no excuses if you were bad in school.

The chemical dopamine is vital for people to actually get up and do things. Without this neurotransmitter we would all feel hungry, but not do anything about it and possibly starve to death.  But Dopamine has been proven to also play a vital role when it comes to learning and remembering things, moving our body and naughty thoughts. This is possibly the reason why opiates (high levels of dopamine) are so highly addictive, not only do they make us feel fantastic but we seem to be able to do things better, faster and have wonderfully creative ideas.

A healthier way to help the flow of dopamine in your brain is listening to music. Not only does our favourite song make us emotional, kick start our memories or inspire us to jump around the living room as if we were a possessed prima ballerina but it also increases the levels of dopamine produced, encouraging our bodies and minds to do and feel things.

Of course there are foods that can help us along too. Sunflower seeds, whole grain and foods high in antioxidants like berries, tomatoes, broccoli and garlic (maybe not all at the same time) are perfect but ripe bananas seem to be the best. Caffeine can give us a quick push but it doesn’t last long. And again (and I hate having to type this as lazy as I am) exercise seems to help too.

When all of that fails, and you still have no ideas, there is the simple trick of bringing your seven-year-old-self out to play. All children are incredibly creative and like anything else creativity needs practice. What we did so instinctively as kids we forget as adults. We stop picking up sticks and turning them into wands and swords, we don’t linger and watch as a spider spins her web or stand in awe as a butterfly opens up her wings and flies away. As adults a box is a box, not a time-machine or a typewriter or a hat, for a child a box is something of endless possibilities. And don’t be afraid to try something and fail, if it doesn’t work try again, maybe a little different and who knows what you will discover. After all children constantly fail at things but they change the rules and discover new possibilities, never lost for ideas and full of surprises.

So now I have to put on a CD,  eat a banana, do a few jumping jacks and turn my cereal box into shoes so that I can come up with ideas of how to fill my day.

blog, blogging, fun, humor, miscellaneous, questions, random, Tag, thoughts, writing

In this chase of blogs I got caught and am now It … so stilishbabe asked me a question, I have to answer and then ask 11 other people a question, too.  Now I know we all want to know how to solve world hunger and spread peace but what we really want to know is what your sock drawer is hiding and what do you do when you’re alone, or am I the only one who is nosey?

stilishbabe asked me this: How do you manage to be so good at all these ?Designer, lecturer ,writer?? HOOOW?

I actually am quite surprised by the question as I am not really especially good  at any of the three. Yes, I think I do a good job, no better or worse than others, but am I a stand out talent, not really. But I will take the compliment and just say … when you do something you like, have fun with and challenges you I think you strive to get better at it. And as the saying goes, practice makes perfect and I have been at it for a while so am on a road toward getting good, perfect is something I don’t want to be as flaws make things special just like a stamp, the ones that are rare due to misprint or imperfections are the ones everyone wants.

Now to my questions:

morezennow: when selling drugs from your basement, do you ever switch them just to see what happens?

kate: how many cups of coffee does your cat drink a day and does it have to be starbucks … also do you share and is it a latte?

Lil and Jil: who steals whose clothes the most and does it go as far as underwear … and is there something you don’t know about each other, common cough it up!

realityinprogress: as a wandering soul what kind of shoes do you wear and what do you always carry with you?

notlostjustweird: as a Shakespearean what character out of which play would you be and why ….and how many alter-egos do you have?

Anna: what hat is it you wear, is it a thinking one and what is the story behind it?

Jots: what is your favourite artist or piece of art and why?

astimegoesbuy: as a fashionista bloganista what is your take on the LBD … and favourite vintage find?

spookysister: as a girl who is woeing and being woed what impact has it had on your nails and working live? Are you getting any work done or just daydreaming and have you chewed those nails off yet?

blameitondisney: which Disney character do you want to be like and which one are you most like (can be other cartoons too)

goodoldgirl: as a puzzler how do feel about labyrinths, how long does it take you to do a crossword  and have you ever gotten lost in a maze?
